Wallpaper is an ongoing large-scale drawing. A meditation on the health of our oceans and unsustainable consumption, the seashell can be seen as a logo for Shell and all oil companies. Wallpaper is inspired by Zen calligraphy and the Pattern and Decoration movement. Two simple shell forms are inverted and repeated ad infinitum. Like an On Kawara painting, it is a process-driven practice. Since summer 2010, fifty sheets of 34” x 27” mulberry paper have been slowly hand-painted in ink.
